beanies.

I realised last year that I had knit scarves, cowls, socks, jumpers, cardigans… but never a hat. Which is strange, because a sock is definitely more difficult than a hat. I decided to remedy this oversight and started practicing hat patterns. The first hats were too short, too tight, too loose etc. They used the wrong yarn with the wrong tension. My mum still wears them though.

Eventually I developed my perfect hat recipe using Bendigo Woollen Mills yarn. This Australian wool is crepe-plyed which makes it super hard-wearing, but not scratchy. I have a cardigan made out of it that I have worn every cold day for about 2 years with zero pilling or felting. It’s magic.

I’ve designed some colourwork patterns for my beanies to give a bit more aesthetic interest, both in the making and the wearing.
